A 12-Hour Window for a Healthy Weight

“Meal times have more effect on circadian rhythm than dark and light cycles … and circadian rhythm in turn affects the function of many genes in the body”, is a line from the previous article I shared on the importance of eating on a regular schedule.

Of all the health management practices one could consider there are few more important than observing this regularity. In TCM it is stated that:

1) Proper eating habits constitute one of three pillars of health (sleeping and pooping being the other two).
2) Irregular eating habits are more harmful to one’s digestion than any other dietary indiscretion.
3) All disease begins with a weakness of the digestive functions.

I am often asked questions in some form pertaining to “what should I eat”; to which I often answer “whatever you want as long as it’s at your regularly scheduled meal time”. Once there the next step is to eat sitting down, slowly, with patience and gratitude. After you’ve mastered the practice of mindful eating you can start to focus on what you’re eating: unprocessed foods from your own kitchen and the correct choice of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. What to eat is a trial and error process unique to your gut; the principles of how to eat are universal.
