Acupuncture is most appropriate for medical conditions that are due to a lack of proper flow and movement, such as pain and tightness, sleeplessness, and gut issues; or a physiological imbalance such as stress and hormonal conditions. Moxibustion, the practice of burning herbs (usually mugwort) on the body, is often combined with needling in order to warm and enhance the therapeutic effects.
Dr. Penoyer employs a range of acu-moxa and manual needling techniques. This includes those that involve minimal discomfort to the patient, most appropriate for children, those who are new to acupuncture, or are known to be sensitive to needling. Once established, patients are trained to recognize a qi response and quickly adapt to the process.
